The Journey of a Soybean

Join us on Tuesday, October 6, at 10:00 a.m. for a free Virtual Field Trip, where students in grades 4-8 will tour Snobelen Farms, an export facility in Lucknow, Ontario.

From the comfort of your classroom, your class will:

• Meet Colin and Faith, who will take students on a behind-the-scenes look at what happens to Ontario soybeans after they leave the farm.
• Follow the journey of a food-grade Identity Preserved (IP) soybean as it arrives at the elevator, is handled and prepared for export, and discuss how it makes its way to markets around the world.
• Discover where Ontario soybeans are shipped, how they connect Ontario farmers to the global food system, and what these soybeans can eventually become.
• Participate in live discussions and ask questions in real time.

Additionally, all registrants will receive a digital activity kit containing engaging educational materials to enhance the Virtual Field Trip experience. 

This Virtual Field Trip will help students connect Ontario agriculture to the wider world, showing them that a crop grown right here can be part of food systems, economies, and communities thousands of kilometres away. The experience also aligns with the Ontario curriculum, including Social Studies, Geography, and Healthy Living, and explores concepts such as global trade, food systems, technology, producers and consumers, and Ontario’s role in the global market.
