The “Eating Well & Making Food Decisions” workshop and supplemental pre and post workshop activities are designed to introduce participants to some of the key areas food decision-making is rooted in – health, social and economic. The journey uses Canada’s Food Guide as a jumping off point for looking at decision-making through the nutritional/health-related lens. Participants will explore how food labels can be used for a variety of purposes which will lead into exploring the community/social aspects of food decision-making. Finally, participants will take all of their newfound food literacy knowledge and explore through the economic/money lens and learn a bit about how a food budget can inform food decision-making.
Workshop Learning Goals:
- By the end of this workshop, participants will ...
- understand Canadian nutritional recommendations and how to find ingredient and nutritional information on food packaging to help inform their decisions.
- know more about and be able to identify how food labels inform and influence their food decisions and grocery budgets.
- be able to describe what local food is and how engaging in local food communities contributes to their wellbeing.
