STEM: Design Challenge Kit

Bring the exciting world of agriculture and food into your grades 3-8 classroom

Celebrate National STEM Day with our NEW Farm to STEM: Design Challenge Kit, a free, curriculum-connected resource designed to bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to life for students in Grades 3–8.

Through hands-on, agriculture-inspired design challenges, students explore how STEM concepts are used to solve real-world problems. By following the Engineering Design Process, students learn to identify problems, brainstorm solutions, build prototypes, test their designs and make improvements based on their results.

The Farm to STEM: Design Challenge Kit includes:

  • Four Hands-On Design Challenge Lesson Plans: Engage students in solving real-world problems inspired by agriculture through designing, building, testing and improving their solutions.
  • Printable Engineering Design Process Student Workbook: Guide students through each stage of the design process as they plan, document their ideas, record observations and reflect on their results.
  • Teacher Assessment Rubric: Support the assessment of students’ design process, problem-solving, creativity and final solutions.
