Growing into Tomorrow: Canada's Agriculture Day Challenge
February 10th, 2026, is Canada’s Agriculture Day, a day to honour the dedication and hard work of those who produce our food and contribute to the country’s agricultural system. This year marks the 10th anniversary of this national day of recognition.
Canada’s Agriculture Day is an opportunity to celebrate the innovation, dedication, and resilience of Canada’s vibrant agriculture and food sector. Bring the celebration into your classroom by participating in our Growing into Tomorrow: Canada’s Agriculture Day Challenge!
Open to grades 1-4, this challenge allows students to explore agriculture and food literacy by learning where their food comes from through STEM-based investigations and hands-on activities.
Growing into Tomorrow: Canada's Agriculture Day Challenge
Step 1. Sign up and download the From Seed to Salad Teacher Resource by February 10th, 2026.
The first 100 registrants will receive a free Salad Garden Seed Kit to accompany the resource, including 4 colourful die-cut seed paper shapes that will grow into a salad garden with carrot, tomato, chili pepper, and lettuce seeds.
Note: Salad Garden Seed Kits will be mailed out after February 10th, 2026
Step 2. Complete Part 1 of From Seed to Salad Teacher Resource
After downloading the resource, complete Part 1 with your students, which contains the following activities:
- Introduction
- Plant Habitat Investigation
- The Sunlight Test
- The Sponge Test
- Soil Detective
- The Seed Mystery
Step 3. Complete Part 2 of From Seed to Salad Teacher Resource
After receiving the Salad Garden Seed Kit, complete Part 2 with your students, which contains the following activities:
- Planting Your Seeds
- Growth Tracker

About From Seed to Salad Teacher Resource
Created for Canada’s Agriculture Day, this new
resource helps teachers foster agriculture and food literacy among their students. Through a series of STEM-based investigations and interactive activities, students will observe the stages of a plant’s life cycle by exploring the environmental conditions and resources required to sustain plant growth. This resource aligns with the Ontario Science and Technology Curriculum for Grades 1-4.
