Help equip our youth with the tools they need to make a differenceI want to help
May 3, 2018
On behalf of the Government of Ontario and the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, I'd like to welcome you to AgScape's 2018 Annual General Meeting.
Good food is an important part of our lives, and so are the people who make it. We learn so much from those who work and study in agriculture, so I want to thank AgScape for sharing that knowledge and experience.
Through reaching young people early on, we can encourage them to make smart choices about not just healthy eating, but also about their future careers. I know from my time as Minister of Education that AgScape is a greater partner in creating these learning moments for students. I'm happy to tell you that Ontario is also supporting young people on their way to agri-food careers, specifically through initiatives that connect people with hands-on skills training.
In fact, just a few days ago we announced a brand new postsecondary campus right here in Milton - one that will focus on environmental science and create new learning opportunities for students.
Whether through experiential learning, updated career profiles or agricultural apprenticeships, our government wants to connect more people with good, in-demand jobs like the ones in this sector.
I hope that during today's events you'll learn more about the value that lies in eating - and producing - good local food.
