In 2012, Agriculture in the Classroom-Canada worked collectively on the initiative to declare one week in early March as Canadian Agriculture Literacy Week. These week-long celebrations were so popular, it has been expanded to a full month! This hands-on program encourages students to learn about and celebrate agriculture through a variety of events and activities.
Agriculture in the Classroom-Canada (AITC) member organizations celebrate Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month (CALM) annually in classrooms across the nation each March. Agriculture comes alive in Canadian classrooms as students participate in activities to learn about, connect to and understand this important industry. Events and activities run throughout the month, to celebrate the fact that agriculture is all around us, every day!

Ontario’s annual Local Food Week is during the first full week of June. Established under the Local Food Act, 2013, Local Food Week presents an opportunity for Ontario’s farmers, farm organizations, agribusinesses, government partners and consumers like you to come together, celebrate and promote the good things that are grown, made and harvested right here in our province.

Ontario is a province overflowing with fresh, locally-grown, high-quality food, during the first full week in October, agricultural organizations across the province will be celebrating Ontario Agriculture Week along with the province’s 52,000 hard-working farmers and their families. The week has been celebrated since it was proclaimed by the Ontario government in 1998.
