AgScape Honours Ontario Educator With 2025 Teaching Excellence in Agriculture and Food Education Award

AgScape, a leader in agriculture and food education for students and educators across Ontario, is pleased to announce Hannah Anderson, an elementary school teacher at Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Elementary School in Strathroy, Ontario, has been awarded AgScape’s 2025 Teaching Excellence in Agriculture and Food Education Award.

Sponsored by Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show, the AgScape Teaching Excellence
in Agriculture and Food Education Award recognizes an Ontario educator who
demonstrates an exceptional commitment to integrating agriculture and food
topics into their teaching, inspiring youth to become knowledgeable about food. The recipient receives a $1,500 cash prize and a certificate acknowledging
their impactful role in agriculture and food education in the classroom.

“Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show is a celebration of Eastern Canadian Agriculture,” said Rob O’Connor, Show Director and Business Development Lead at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show. “One of the best parts of the week is acknowledging and celebrating those educators who teach people about the positive influence agriculture and food have on their lives.”

Anderson has always been deeply connected to agriculture. Growing up on a cash crop farm near Thamesville, Ontario, she now lives on a farm outside Strathroy, working with specialty crops. Currently in her fourth year of teaching, Anderson engages her students in the Bees@Schools program from the University of Guelph, where they conduct scientific experiments to learn about pollinators and their vital role in food production. She also arranges dairy presentations by Dairy Farmers of Ontario for her entire school to educate students about nutrition and healthy food choices. Her dedication and commitment to fostering agriculture and food literacy within her students’ learning experiences are exemplified through her use of various AgScape programs and resources. She incorporates Teacher Ambassador Program workshops, Virtual Field Trips, and other hands-on activities to build a strong connection to environmental stewardship and food production.

“I am so honoured to have received this award, which combines two large aspects of my life,” said Anderson. “Thank you to AgScape for offering so many amazing activities to be a great starting point for teachers to include agriculture education in the classroom. I have always wanted to be an educator just like my mom and bringing my agriculture background into the classroom has enhanced my joy in both.”
